What to do about blood pressure

Posted by: rescue1250 | Comments (0)

“I am having a problem getting my blood pressure under control.i am currently taking 320mg of diovan hct which helps but the side affects are unbearable.what can you suggest?”

There are two products on our site that can be used to control blood pressure. But before I recommend and point you to them, I want to disclaim a couple of things.

1. I look at high blood pressure as a symptom with an underlying cause. So a look at lifestyle issues is a must.
2. Besides supplements that will help, diet modifications can help and of course, taking 4 ten minute walks a day will help. Even yoga has been shown to help.

http://optimalhealthrsq.com/content/view/219/269/ – Hyperlose, house brand, each bottle contains 45 day supply.

http://optimalhealthrsq.com/content/view/299/367/ – Blood Pressure Take Care, from New Chapter

I agree that the side effects of most pharmaceuticals have to be weighed against the benefits and there are always alternative therapies available.

How to Lower Cholesterol without Statins
ind out about Christmas Gifts we are giving.

Find out about our Christmas Offerings.
How to Lower Your Cholesterol Without Statin Drugs
This article taken from eHow.com will give you the basics. There is no mystery here. Cholesterol is a
lifestyle issue. Even those who say it’s genetic, can control cholesterol by choices in the exercise and food intake departments.

Introduction

If your cholesterol is high, your doctor will probably suggest that you start taking statin drugs. Statins like
Lipitor, Zocor and Crestor can lower your cholesterol, but they often have side effects. If you would
like to try lowering your cholesterol naturally and without statin drugs, read on for some tips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need

* Weight loss regimen, if needed

* Healthy foods

* Time to exercise

Step One

Lose weight. Are you a tad overweight? Losing a few pounds can help lower your cholesterol. Even if you
only need to lose a few pounds, the excess weight may be elevating your cholesterol. Garey: Limit your intake of bread, rice and pasta. I recently lost 10 lbs of fat (no muscle loss) by cutting back on
bread to 2 slices a day and eliminating rice and pasta from my diet. And adding 30 minutes of exercise daily. Eat small meals of lean protein, fruits, veggies and nuts every 2 ½ hours. If I can do it, you can do it.

Step Two

Change your eating habits. If you eat fatty and processed foods, you need to change your eating habits
now. Stop drinking soda and reduce your intake of high fat foods like red meat, cheese, processed deli meats and processed snack foods like potato chips. Incorporate more fruits, vegetables and lean protein into your diet. Garey: Add as many high fiber foods as possible. Fiber binds with excess cholesterol and flushes it out of the body.

Step Three

Exercise. 30 minutes of aerobic exercise a day will go a long way in helping you to reduce your
cholesterol. Even a brisk walk will help. If you don’t have 30 extra minutes, try incorporating mini workouts into your day. Three 10 minutes walks will fill your goal of 30 minutes. Garey: Walking burns
fat. 30 minutes a day over 30 days will do wonders. High impact exercise burns carbohydrates, so if fat loss is indicated then walk.

Step Four

Try taking phytosterols. Phytosterols are non-prescription plant sterol supplements that help to block the bad
cholesterol. The phytosterols contain good cholesterol, so there’s no “room” for the bad cholesterol (your body can only absorb so much cholesterol at a time). Phytosterols should be taken before meals. Before trying this method, it is important that you discuss the benefits and risks associated with phytosterols
with your doctor. Phytosterols can be purchased at some health food stores, online (research for a reputable seller) or you can find them in supplements like Centrum Cardio. You can also ask your doctor
where you can purchase phytosterols. Garey: Res-Q LDL-X2 is a phytosterol product.

Step Five

Try taking red yeast rice.
Red yeast rice has been a staple in Chinese diets for many years. It appears
to have cholesterol lowering benefits and can be taken in a supplement form.
Red yeast rice can be purchased at most health food stores. As always,
consult with your doctor before taking red yeast rice. Garey: Fact is that statin drugs
were “discovered” by researching red rice yeast. It’s important to note that when taken red rice yeast or a pharma statin that it’s extremely important to take CoQ10 along with the statin be it natural like red rice yeast
or pharmaceutical. Both will impede the production of cholesterol in the liver, but it will also block the production of CoQ10 which is the enzyme catalyst for creating energy in the muscles. The heart being a muscle needs CoQ10. Lowering your cholesterol with statins and robbing your heart of energy is not a good formula. Red rice yeast will not have some of the deleterious side effects but you could have some muscle energy loss if you do not supplement with CoQ10.

Tips & Warnings

* Foods to raise your HDL (your “good”
cholesterol) and lower your LDL (your “bad” cholesterol): salmon,
avocado, oatmeal, cranberry juice, onions, garlic, olive oil (used in
moderation) and flaxseed. Garey: You can add
Niacin to the list.

* Avoid foods that contain trans fats (hydrogenated oils). Garey: Let me be explicit – No doughnut, no cinibons, no french fries, no potato chips. Replace with raw nuts: walnuts, almonds, pecans, etc.
You can do it. I didn’t think I could but I was able to change this life style habit in six weeks. I will write more on that at a later date.

I would be remiss in my duties if I didn’t tell you that the most important heart health
nutrient is concentrated omega-3 oils. Get enough of this nutrient and heart
disease will hardly be of concern.

Cholesterol is not the end all and be all of heart disease prevention. I happened to think
otherwise. There are other scientific evidences that seldom see the light of day. Some brave doctors and scientists are looking at homecysteine – the abrasive toxic amino acid that is sandpaper to the artery linings;
Vitamin B-12 to control homocysteine, and enzymes like natto-kinase that can actually reverse plaque
build up in the arteries.

As revealed in thousands of studies, make sure you get 3 – 4 grams of pure Omega-3s daily.
We offer Res-Q 1250 as being one of the best. Thanks.

As you know stress, especially in today’s world, is high enough to cause significant health damage.

As human beings stress has its purpose but it must be managed properly. Let me give you an example. After listening to the morning news, all I can think is, “How incompetent the Congress is to (cause, allow, condone, neglect) the economic meltdown the country is facing.” Now, that is a negative thought with no outlet. Who am I going to complain to? George Bush? Nancy Pelosi? Harry Reed? My local Congressman? Will complaining make a difference? Will it make anything any better?

Mind – Body Wellness: What to think about.

Here is a clue: Let me start with my own environment and work on recession proofing my income, my lifestyle. It’s actually easy for me because I have a different context to draw from that many of you. I lived for almost 30 years in 3rd world countries. From the streets of Dacca, Bangladesh in 1976, I gained a different perspective on my own country, the USA.

I know this to be a land of opportunity. How you ever seen housing prices plummet so fast? What about stocks? This has become a buyers market. Everything is on sale! Ask Warren Buffet. He’s buying everything he can get his hands on at twenty cents on the dollar. What opportunities are out there because of the difficulties the country is facing! It’s called turning lemons into lemonade.

I went to a seminar last weekend about real estate. I met a man in the room, a participant. He was bidding $1,000 per contract on foreclosed homes. Some banks are giving them away. So opportunities abound, if you know where to look.

Now I am going to compound that negative thought and make it worse. “Did you know that as United States Senators, their pensions are guaranteed and not affected by Wall Street? Now, I know it makes me mad to hear this. Yet they will go after private folks income, pensions, property without blinking.

Thoughts lead to feelings. Feelings lead to Actions. Actions Lead to Results.

Let’s work backwards: I don’t like the results I am getting, Let me do something different. To set on a new course of action, I will need a new action plan, therefore I need to think differently. I can’t tell you all that is involved in changing preconditioned thinking.

But if I say, “Ignorance is ….”

You will say “Bliss.”

If I say, “Money is the root of ….”

You will say “All Evil.” (Even though we all need money and lots of it to thrive.)

If I say, “Time is…”

You will say, “Money.”

We could do this for hours. But the point is we are conditioned by our upbringing and our society to think in a certain way. It may not be the correct way. It may not be really the truth. It may not be right.

One idea can change the world. One thought can put a man on the moon. One bit of relaxation can right the ship.

So here is the article that I thought was so noteworthy before I started rambling.

Meditation for Women (or men) Who Hate to Sit Still

Judith Boice, ND

editation is good for us — it can relieve tension by shifting brain activity away from the stress-prone right frontal cortex and into the calmer left frontal cortex. But some people have trouble finding time to meditate — or just can’t seem to sit still.
Solution: Combine exercise and meditation through rhythmic, repetitive motions, such as walking, swimming or rowing, so you simultaneously strengthen the body and soothe the mind.

Bonus: “Meditation in motion” makes exercise easier, because while you do it, you won’t be thinking about tired muscles or tasks that await after your workout. Begin with walking meditation…

Pick a spot. Find a secluded outdoor area where you won’t feel self-conscious… or an empty hallway where you won’t bump into furniture.

Begin walking. Start slowly, focusing on the rhythm of your heels striking the ground and your toes pushing off. Keep your eyes open for safety, but don’t get distracted by the sights around you.

Recite a mantra. Choose or invent a rhythmic chant, such as “I am one with the world, I am filled with peace.” Repeat it over and over, out loud or in your mind, melding its rhythm with the movement of your feet. I recommend not listening to music — it may distract you from your mantra.

Try to stay focused. At first you may succeed for only a few minutes before thoughts of daily life intrude. Work your way up to a 30-minute session daily.

Meditate at the gym. Once you’ve mastered walking meditation, try the technique while using a treadmill or elliptical machine or while swimming laps.

end of article

I would just add, that your meditation can be in the form of an intention. A powerful thought that can start in your conscious mind and through using the above technique seep down into your being. “Everyday in every way I am getting better and better.” I have done this for years sometimes applying it to health, sometime applying it to wealth. It keeps me tuned up and in tune with actions and decisions I am empowered to make. Why? Because I am thinking the right kind of thoughts that serve me and the greater good.

Yours, Garey

Top 5 (or 6)

Posted by: rescue1250 | Comments (0)

You wrote,

I have Diabetes and have had it for 20 years. I have
taken vitamin supplements in the past with good results. i have also taken a fiber nutrient drink with chromium in it and that has been fabulous. What in your line of nutrients would I most benefit from? I am 39 years old about 40 pounds over weight and my sugars are not the best. I also have high cholesterol of 180.

Hi,

Interesting question, as I am just now working on a
Top 4 or 5 list of things that people need today. Due to the lack of nutrients
in ‘modern’ foods and lifestyles that took us “off the farm”
here are my general recommendations:

1. Res-Q 1250
Omega-3s – 4 – 8 capsules a day. This is the best insurance policy
against stroke and heart attack.

2. Optimal Life’s
Vitality
– Broad spectrum Multi that will cover all vitamins, mineral and trace elements the body needs to work well

3. Ubiquinol Bio Active CoQ10 – needed for heart muscle energy and well being

4. Epicor for Immune Modulation.

5. Res-Q Land and Sea Fiber Powder or Capsules. Fiber binds with cholesterol and does many other things.

Of course we have many products that work for specific issues. Blood Sugar being a major problem I recommend:

Diacetinol or Res-Q 105 Max –
both are useful in allowing blood sugar to be utilized well, both contain Chromium

Total Cholesterol count doesn’t give a clear picture of heart health contrary to the TV commericials, but I would also start on Sublingual B-12 to counteract homocysteines which are actually hiding in the LDL cholesterol. That’s the real culprit.

If you decide want to try some combination of these, let me know and I will bundle them for you and get you a reasonably discounted price.

Increasing HDL – 3 ways

Posted by: rescue1250 | Comments (0)

Hi Carol,

You pose an interesting question: How to increase HDL being allergic to Niacin. You wrote, need to increase HDL but am allergic to many medicines, and cannot take niacin. Any suggestions

There are 3 ways. First, I have to ask, is the allergic reaction you feel to Niacin a flush feeling? Does it last more than 15 minutes?

My holistic doctor says that the niacin is not working UNLESS you feel the flush sensation. We have been told it’s an allergic reaction but if you can build up your tolerance of niacin it would be worth it. The body can be trained to do the right thing but sometimes we need to train it.

Increase Fiber: The more fiber you take, the more cholesterol is binding and being expressed out of the body.

Increase Exercise: No one likes to hear this but its again a matter of what we are looking at and focusing on. Increased exercise burns up LDL cholesterol thus improving HDL and its ratio to LDL, very important. Here’s a tip: Pick 3 activities you like to do. Things that are fun that involved movement. Alternate and rotate between 3 different activities can help you to find more time to exercise.

My 4 favorite things are:
*Walking in nature
*Biking on Trails
*Kayaking
*Yoga

I just take turns doing different things and its not hard to reach my calorie burn goals.

Taking 6 – 8 Res-Q capsules daily in two doses, is certainly the right thing to do for overall protection of heart health.

A fourth thing to consider is your energy level. Our Superior CoQ10 (Ubiquinol) is a huge difference maker for heart health and muscle energy. After Res-Q 1250, I would consider this a major needed supplement for anyone over age thirty.

http://optimalhealthrsq.com/content/view/210/282/ Read about Ubiquinol.

I will send you a free canister of Res-Q Fiber for asking such a good question.

I hope this helps.

Blood Pressure and Res-Q 1250

Posted by: rescue1250 | Comments (0)

Many customers with high blood pressure take Res-Q 1250, and have reported benefits such as decrease in “spikes”, normalized pressure readings and other cardiovascular beneficial effects.

Hypertension is High Blood Pressure, and blood pressure is defined as:
“… the force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels, and constitutes one of the principal vital signs. The pressure of the circulating blood decreases as blood moves through arteries, arterioles, capillaries, and veins; the term blood pressure generally refers to arterial pressure, i.e., the pressure in the larger arteries, arteries being the blood vessels which take blood away from the heart.”

Pasted from <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_pressure>

I just googled “stress and hypertension” and got back 2.6 million results. So there might be something to that as well.

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, USA states,
“Stress can cause hypertension through repeated blood pressure elevations as well as by stimulation of the nervous system to produce large amounts of vasoconstricting hormones that increase blood pressure.”

So there is this mind body connection as well. We humans have to adapt to a fast paced, stimulating mental environment while we generally are becoming more and more sedentary in life style.

It seems somehow inane to me that I need to go to the gym several times a week to push on machines and “simulate” working my muscles when in times past, I got plenty of work in my daily job of splitting firewood, but indeed, my brain is doing most of my daily work now except for my fingers that do a lot of keyboarding (boy, do my wrists hurt) and the occasions that I am lifting boxes of product.

Res-Q 1250 is very good for both the heart muscle, and the cardiovascular system. When the cardiovascular system is working better, the whole body is working better. Res-Q 1250 supports a healthy heart function, encourages blood flow to the heart, and helps keep healthy arteries healthy and elastic.

Since we sell natural products, we are limited with product claims such as high blood pressure which requires medical treatment by a doctor. Therefore, we do encourage that everyone read and educate themselves on the subject matter by reviewing the clinical studies on natural ingredients that have been published in medical journals.

Below are some links to scientific abstracts that have been published in the medical journal Hypertension, which support the evidence behind Res-Q 1250, a highly effective, supplement derived from fish oil, and the ability of the active ingredients found in Res-Q 1250 to promote heart function. You may want to share these study summaries with your doctor.

Blood pressure response to fish oil supplementation: metaregression analysis of randomized trials.
Original papers
Journal of Hypertension. 20(8):1493-1499, August 2002.
Geleijnse, Johanna M. a,b; Giltay, Erik J. a; Grobbee, Diederick E. b; Donders, Adrianus R. T. b,c; Kok, Frans J. a
Abstract:
Objective : The antihypertensive effect of fish oil was estimated from randomized trials using metaregression analysis. Modification of the blood pressure (BP) effect by age, gender, blood pressure, and body mass index was examined.
Methods : A total of 90 randomized trials of fish oil and BP were identified through MEDLINE (1966-March 2001). Trials with co-interventions, patient populations, non-placebo controls, or duration of 45 years) and in hypertensive populations (BP >= 140/90 mmHg).
Conclusions : High intake of fish oil may lower BP, especially in older and hypertensive subjects. The antihypertensive effect of lower doses of fish oil (http://www.jhypertension.com/pt/re/jhypertension/abstract.00004872-200208000-00010.htm;jsessionid=LyLSChpWH2Kry0RSyKPgyx1bLB2rC1ycgxhdTHQMQQbjM4p2g3l1!447927974!181195628!8091!-1?index=1&database=ppvovft&results=1&count=10&searchid=1&nav=search

A low-sodium diet supplemented with fish oil lowers blood pressure in the elderly
Hypertension Research Program, Commonwealth Scientific and International Research Organization (CSIRO) Division of Human Nutrition, Adelaide, South Australia.
OBJECTIVE: To examine effects of dietary fish oil supplementation with sodium restriction on blood pressure in the elderly. DESIGN: In a double-blind dietary intervention lasting 4 weeks, parallel comparisons of blood pressure were made in volunteers assigned to one of four treatment groups: fish oil and low sodium; fish oil and normal sodium; sunflower oil and low sodium; or sunflower oil and normal sodium. SETTING: Subjects lived at home and attended our nutrition research clinic at fortnightly intervals for dietary counselling and blood pressure measurement. PARTICIPANTS: Health volunteers aged 60-80 years were sought by advertisement. A total of 114 men and women were enrolled in two cohorts; 106, with an initial mean blood pressure of 132/77 mmHg, satisfactorily completed the study. INTERVENTION: All subjects adopted a low-sodium diet and dietary changes were effected by double-blind administration of slow-release sodium chloride or placebo tablets, along with capsules containing either fish or sunflower oil. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: The primary measure was the within-subject change in blood pressure after 4 weeks of intervention in each dietary treatment group. RESULTS: Urinary sodium excretion in subjects on low-sodium diets decreased whilst potassium excretion was unaffected. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) fell in the group taking sunflower oil with low sodium, but there was only a transient fall in diastolic blood pressure (DBP). In those taking fish oil with normal sodium, the change in blood pressure was not significant, except after adjustment for initial blood pressure and weight changes. When fish oil was combined with low sodium, however, both SBP and DBP were substantially reduced; the reduction in DBP was significantly greater than in the other treatment groups. CONCLUSION: Dietary fish oil and sodium restriction can interact to lower DBP in the elderly.

Pasted from <http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1312556>

Taking Res-Q 1250 would be very good to your overall cardiovascular health.

More and more people are now taking fish oils. Not just any fish oil will work. Why do I say that? The oil needs to contain sufficient amounts of EPA and DHA, the beneficial metabolite that the body needs from the fish oils.

The oil should also be purified with a molecular distillation process to ensure harmful products from fish have been removed, while maintaining the active omega-3 fatty acid content.

The fish oil product must be pleasant to take otherwise our human condition will not allow us to do things that are unpleasant. Most people who try store bought low density fish oils are not happy with the after-taste and repeating.

Res-Q 1250 meets strict standards for safety set forth by the industry, and is an effective product.

As always, I recommend that all supplement use be discussed with your physician and that you continue to work with your doctor on a treatment plan for high blood pressure.

The Pavane at Hopkins

Posted by: rescue1250 | Comments (0)
Print E-mail

*****My Story and I am sticking to it.*****

I was on a ward of Johns Hopkins in Baltimore yesterday. A junior family member had an appointment with a doctor there. I waited in the day area where patients, doctors and nurses were going about their routines.

If you ever wondered why anyone would live in Baltimore, Johns Hopkins is a pretty good reason. For the 17th consecutive year, The Johns Hopkins Hospital has topped U.S.News & World Report’s annual rankings of “America’s Best Hospitals.”

What I witnessed yesterday was humanity, fraility, medicine and the hippocratic oath in total synergy. It was like poetry in real life. It was a form of dance that could be labelled a “pavane.”

The scene, a young foreign doctor, of which Hopkins has several thousand, working with an 83 year old woman confined in a wheel chair. He was taking the lady’s blood pressure. “90 over 50, that’s low. Here you put on the stethoscope and listen”. The lady had a hard time hearing her pulse coming through the instrument. “Here, you take my blood pressure.”

The doctor strapped the BP device on his own arm and had the patient listen for his arterial pulse.

When the woman patient continued having a hard time to hear the pulse through the stethoscope, he offered that she could listen to his heartbeat. “It’s easier to hear the heartbeat.” Then he had the woman listen to her own heart beat. 30 minutes later he was still having her “play” doctor, alternating with her, who would be the “doctor” and finally moved into helping understand why she was being asked to take a new medicine.

Now I have a least one reason to believe that as a teaching institution, Hopkins could very well be the best, at least in my mind and in the mind of an 83 year old woman patient in residence there.

That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

There are three questions I want to answer here.

  1. Why do I need Omega-3s as a supplement?
  2. Why should I buy a premium Omega-3?
  3. Why Res-Q 1250?

1. Why do I need Omega-3s as a supplement?
Since 1974 when teams of researchers concluded studies on the Inuit populations of Greenland, the fact has been established that the lack of heart disease there was due to the high intake of fatty fish. Further isolated was the fact that it is the eicosapentaenoic acid
EPA and docosahexaenoic acid DHA components of the fish oil that provides substantial benefits to human health.

EPA /DHA are essential fatty acids which stands for eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid respectively . These essential fatty acids are Omega 3 fats, which are found in cold water fish. These cold water fish ingest phytoplankton from the sea which for the most part we human cannot consume. The breakdown of the phytoplankton produce these important nutrients. EPA DHA are highly unsaturated fat because of they contain 6 and 5 double bond s on their long structural chain. These polyunsaturated fats play a very important role with the function of our bodies. Our bodies cannot produce Omega-3s and therefore they must be ingested.

Brain and Eyesight: EPA and DHA are vital nutrients and may be taken to maintain healthy function of the following: Brain and Retina- DHA is a building block of tissue in the brain and retina of the eye. It helps with forming neural transmitters, such as phosphatidylserine, which is important for brain function. DHA is found in the retina of the eye and taking DHA may be necessary for maintaining healthy levels of DHA for normal eye function.

Cardiovascular system: EPA and DHA are converted into hormone like substances called prostaglandins, and they regulate cell activity and healthy cardiovascular function. Omega-3s biochemically cause blood platelets to “de-clump” and the result is a silkier, smoother blood flow. The presence of Omega-3s can reduce if not eliminate the build up of plaque in the arterial system. And more importantly, Omega-3s have been clinically shown to reduce “sudden death” from heart attack and stroke.

Human growth and intellectual development - DHA plays a very important role during fetal development, early infancy, and old age. High concentrations of DHA are found in the brain and increases 300-500% in and infant’s brain during the last trimester of pregnancy. Adding DHA to a pregnant mothers diet may be beneficial for the fetus’s brain development. Elderly people should also take EPA DHA, because as we get older, our bodies need more DHA and EPA, to offset the decline in mental focus and cognitive function. Taking EPA DHA may also help with mental abnormalities, such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia.

There are other benefits to taking EPA and DHA because it also plays as a source of energy, it insulates the body against heat loss, prevents skin from drying and flaking, and cushions tissues and organs. Some of our clients have been able to reverse psoriasis and other skin conditions with Omega-3s.

Finally, in answering the question as to why I need to supplement, the answer is that cold water fish as a source may not always be safe due to heavy metal toxins and also farm raised salmon for example are not fed phytoplankton and therefore do not produce EPA/DHA fats. Therefore supplementation becomes self-evident.

2.Why should I buy a premium Omega-3?
Since Omega-3s have become so popular many companies and sales groups have adopted the Omega-3 philosophy but there is a huge difference in processing and a difference between basic fish oil and highly distilled premium omega-3 marine oil.

If you are buying bargain basement fish oil, chances are you will be throwing it out in the near future, or it will wind up sitting on your shelf for a long time. The reason is that it is not pleasant and the after burp or repeating is not a good effect of basic fish oil. Also the really cheap versions’ label will show 180mgs or EPA and 120 mg DHA or 300mgs total per capsule. A premium oil will have at least 600 – 800 mgs of pure EPA/DHA per capsule.

3. Why Res-Q 1250?
Omega-3s in Res-Q 1250 have been distilled on a molecular level at least 3 times, giving us up to 800 – 850 mgs of Pure EPA/DHA per capsule.

The fact is that I have been taking this product 2 to 3 times per day for over 2 years and I can do it because there is no unpleasantness associated with taking this product. No repeating. That is because the impurities have been removed. There are no lingering fish parts to deal with. The benefits have been phenomenal: Balanced cholesterol levels, normal blood pressure and healthy triglyceride levels. No one wants to be a heart attack victim and now you don’t need to be. Live long, live strong with Res-Q 1250 and the full line of heart healthy products.
